Steve Leeson and the team at Leeson Family Butchers in Oakham, Rutland, has been awarded first place in the 2023 British Pie Awards.
Leeson Family Butchers have notched up over 100 awards for their Melton Mowbray pork pies and award winning sausages. In 2022 and 2023 alone, they’ve won and been placed in The British Pie Awards and Melton Fat Stock Show, which is THE one to win for traditional pork pie makers!
With over 30 years experience as a butcher, Steve turned his hand to baking in 1998 when he opened his own Butcher’s shop in Oakham, Rutland. He learnt to make pastry and experimented with seasoning until he was happy he had achieved the pinnacle of pie making.
Entering his first competition in 1997, Steve was delighted to be awarded a cup. He continued to finesse his skills, and was quickly rewarded with a string of awards.
Steve is now renowned for his pork pie making, and has fans from around the world. Dr Dave Huntley from Canada recently said ” Leeson’s stilton pork pie is the best I’ve ever tasted”. Locally, Leeson’s pork pies are always in high demand, with a new batch being baked most days and selling like hot pies.
Most recently, Leeson’s won Melton Mowbray Supreme Champion in the British Pie Awards 2018 and a gold cup in 2019, and first prizes for their pork pies and Rutland sausages at the Melton Mowbray Fat Stock Show in 2018, 2021.
